The programme offers students a broad introduction to the Social Sciences. Social scientists seek to understand more fully the world in which we live. Social scientists enjoy questioning, putting forward new ideas, and examining what influences how society is shaped and how people interact.
In recent times, Irish society has experience a period of rapid social change and Social Policy offers important insights and perspectives on the nature and implications of this change. Those with an interest in exploring the theories and dynamics of social change and its impact on individuals, families and communities would be well suited to the study of Social Science. Students concerned with issues such as power and decision making, equality, politics, redistribution and social inclusion will find this a stimulating and thought-provoking programme.

Year 1: Studies in Psychology; Economics; Philosophy; Social Policy; Sociology
Year 2: Policy, Society and Economics; Community Care; Sociology and Society; Options from a range of topics which may include a European language; Optional Placement in an Agency Setting
Year 3: Social Research Project; Society, Welfare and Economics; Social Policy and Social Services; Sociology and Society; Options from a range of topics which may include a European language
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. Others must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects above must include:English, Mathematics and a language other than English.
